Layover in Hong Kong
Wednesday 21st May: Hong Kong
When we paid for the cheap flights, we didn’t appreciate it meant we could visit an extra country on our travels! We had a 6h layover in Hong Kong en route to Japan, and when we landed we saw a really cool looking cable car. After a search about what it was and how long we had, we left the airport, took a bus, and then a 6km cable car to Tian Tan Buddha: a massive, and I mean , Buddha statue on top of a mountain!
The cable car itself was pretty awesome, it went over the estuary, and probably 3 different mountainous valleys over the 25-minute journey. The Big Buddha at the top was very busy and the steps up nearly killed us with the humidity and heat, but it was stunning. We were amazed by the Buddhist people bowing to it as well as them properly hit their heads on the floor - I would definitely have had a big bruise. After exploring the Buddha we explored the Po Lin Monastery.
This was our first temple of our Asia tour, and the colours were beautiful. There were heaps of stunning flowers and Lillies and gold decorations everywhere. An awesome adventure in our 6-hour Hong Kong Layover, so much better than doing some planning for Japan…ooops! We headed back down the cable car and to the hotel, grabbed a bite to eat at a restaurant of 2 different types of dumplings before going through security and boarding our flight to Tokyo.
